Joe's Roasted Pumpkin Old Fashioned

Perfect for a Halloween celebration, this cozy concoction screams fall flavor in the best way.


INGREDIENTS


  • One and a half ounces of Frey Ranch Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

  • One ounce of Pumpkin and Clove Simple syrup.

  • Six drops of Dashfire Spiced Apple Bitters.

  • Four drops of Angostura Bitters.

  • Half an ounce of water.

  • Two Amarena cherries. Maraschino will also work.

  • A sliver of orange peel.


  • A large, clear ice sphere (with food-safe decoration of your choosing added, optionally).

  • Applewood smoke using a cocktail smoking accessory kit.





DIRECTIONS


MAKE AHEAD:


Ice spheres, usually require 24 hours freezing time.


Pumpkin / Clove Simple Syrup.


Roast a split and cleaned/de-seeded sugar pumpkin face down in a oven pre-heated at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.


Bring a mixture of one cup of sugar and one cup of water to a boil.


Scoop out the roasted pumpkin from its rind and place into the sugar/water mixture.


Add four whole cloves.


Let simmer on low for ten minutes.


Using a fine mesh strainer, carefully strain the liquid syrup from the pan into a heat tolerant bottle or jar.

Let cool.



For the cocktail, simple mix the ingredients and stir gently.


Finish with applewood smoke and the orange sliver.
